This complimentary one-on-one virtual meeting is designed to learn more about your child’s unique strengths, challenges, and goals.
During our time together, we’ll talk through your child’s academic history, any current concerns, and how they feel about reading, writing, and learning. This conversation helps us better understand not just where your child is academically, but how they experience school.
Parents are encouraged to come with questions — whether about reading development, school concerns, assessments, or how tutoring works. We want this time to feel helpful, informative, and supportive for you.
We’ll also walk you through our process, including assessment options, how we individualize instruction, and what the next steps would look like if we decide to move forward.
The consultation typically lasts 15–30 minutes and is completely free — simply a chance for us to connect and determine how I can best support your child.

Why We Assess
Before we begin tutoring, we take time to really understand where your child is as a reader and writer. Assessment helps us move beyond guesswork so we can teach exactly what your child needs and build from there.
By identifying strengths and pinpointing skill gaps, we’re able to create a focused plan that builds confidence and steady progress. It also gives us a clear starting point so we can track growth and celebrate how far your child comes.
Assessments May Include:
Phonemic Awareness Tasks – listening to and manipulating sounds in words
Phonics & Decoding Inventories – identifying letter-sound knowledge, blending, and word reading skills
High-Frequency Word Assessment – determining automatic word recognition
Oral Reading Fluency Checks – measuring accuracy, rate, and expression
Spelling & Encoding Samples – understanding how sounds connect to print
Reading Comprehension Questions – assessing understanding of text.
Lessons
Once assessments are complete, we design individualized lessons tailored to meet your child’s specific needs. Each session is thoughtfully planned to target the skills that will make the greatest impact.
Lessons typically range from 30–60 minutes, depending on your child’s age and learning goals. Our virtual sessions are explicit, engaging, and interactive.
