A Summer Boost
Every year when school ends, I feel that mix of relief and panic.
Relief because my kiddos finally get a break.
Panic because I know how quickly things can slip over the summer, especially in reading and math at these early elementary ages.
It doesn’t take much. A few weeks of less reading practice, fewer number conversations, no structure… and suddenly August rolls around and they’re a little less confident, a little more hesitant, and we’re spending the fall “catching back up” instead of moving forward.
So here’s what we’re doing this summer
With Wyatt, I keep it simple and realistic:
short, consistent reading practice
quick phonics and word work
math in everyday moments
and no pressure to “school” all day
We move smoothly between digital tools and real books for connected, meaningful learning.
Why virtual summer support works so well for K–5
Elementary kids don’t need long sessions. They need:
consistency
targeted practice
and confidence-building support
Virtual tutoring makes that easier to stick with because it:
fits around summer plans
keeps routines light but steady
removes the “getting out the door” barrier
and still gives kids real, personalized instruction
What I see again and again
When kids keep just a little bit of structure over the summer, fall starts differently.
They’re:
more confident readers
quicker with math facts
less resistant to schoolwork
and not spending September catching up
It’s not about doing school all summer.
It’s about not losing what they worked so hard to build.
Even 2–3 short virtual sessions a week can make a huge difference in how your child starts the next school year.
Why I’m sharing this
Because I’m doing it too - with Wy guy!
And I see how much smoother things feel when we keep skills warm in a low-pressure, consistent way over the summer.
At Bloomwell, our virtual summer tutoring is designed for exactly that:
simple routines, targeted support, and real confidence growth, without adding stress to your summer.
